I must have called 3 times in the last 10 minutes. I just couldn't afford to sit and wait for him to call me back. I was on my way back from an interview and I'm assuming since he isn't answering, that he doesn't need a ride to work. "I know he'll call me when I've already picked my daughter up and am on my way to work." I said to myself...with the obvious realization that there was no-one else in the car to witness my rant. I turned the music up and began to tap my foot and pass those not driving fast enough to my satisfaction. Dre was brown sugar. Dre is brown sugar. He was the whipped to my cream. But to him, I wasn't even remotely considered in that light. The idea of wanting him was one that consumed my thoughts frequently. We had the conversation of "what we are" many times and although what he wanted wasn't anywhere near the same of what I wanted; I rolled with it anyways. I was cool with it. Or so I thought. I was one of the girls that folded his clothes, cooked for him, massaged him when he was in pain, and was addicted to him like an athlete to Gatorade. I did it all for him...all that I could. And in reflection, I can see that he is comfortable. I noticed he was comfy because of the lack of respect I was getting and things were changing. I would do the dishes and it would eventually be "assumed" or known that I would do them. There really wasn't anything wrong with this...or was there? I felt for a long time that there wasn't anything wrong with it. But then I realized that I deserved more. And the longer we were around each other, the more I realized that if I wanted more I needed to put this relationship on the back burner. I made it very easy for him to feel the way he does. Unfortunately for me, I felt like "Why would he want to buy the cow when the milk is free?" In other words, why would he settle down with me when there is nothing keeping him there? My mind fluttered back to the hilarious times we had. And how much I truly miss those times once they are gone and we are in "serious mode" around each other. Before I knew it, I had driven myself to my daughters school and as I got out of the car I thought about every time I closed the door on something. Closed the door on that pint of Ben & Jerry's that is on sale at Wegman's, closed the door on a better paying job opportunity because I love the people I work with now, and every time I closed the door on other men that didn't give me the attention or respect that I wanted. If these tasks were so easy, why can't I close the door on us?

It matters

Every day is a reminder of how strong I truly am when it comes to this. I guess if the situation was handled by someone else, they would have allowed the legos to fall a long time ago, said those 3 words and gotten carried away with emotions and careless actions. But I can’t let that happen. We are great at what we are and what he wants is what we are right now. The question of if and when we would be more has crossed my mind so many times my brain is numb. The fact that his smile could undress me is paramount. And the scent of his skin (not his cologne) makes me dizzy with anticipation of touching him. The reality that there are so many other men out there is known to me. But why wait for him? Because he is worth it. And the worst thing that could be said is no. I have been strong enough to keep how I really feel to myself, and I know I will be strong enough to continue doing so. It’s spending the night, insatiable passion, and deep conversations fit for friends that have been so since they were toddlers. No denying that the love that I feel for him is stronger that the web a spider spins, but I can’t help but wonder; am I making a mistake?

The Art of Fried Chicken

Many times, we cook things and we find that they are the most amazing dishes we have ever had. But then we might cook something and it's so disgusting we can't even bear to look at it. Well, my take on that situation is to have a note pad. If you are experimenting with a dish baked chicken for example, and you are putting in a "Mediterranean" seasoning but you aren't sure if it's going to taste OK; write down everything you put in it and the order you put it in. Because believe it or not if that dish comes out to be amazing and you can't remember what you did to it and how, you will be upset.

I have a teacher that is currently mastering the art of friend chicken. With her heart in succeeding at this dish, she will aimlessly conquer everything up until taking it out of the grease. And she has stated numerous times that it just comes out "bad." So I told her I will lend my advice. Read on...

INGREDIENTS:

Seasonings to season the flour
Dressing for chicken marinade. Or whatever marinade you like.
2-3 cups of flour (depending on amount of chicken being fried) in ziploc bag.
Frying oil of your choice. Grapeseed oil has a much higher smoke point than olive oil, so that is what I used.

DIRECTIONS:

* I use Italian dressing to marinade the chicken. This was marinated overnight, and you can let the chicken sit anywhere from an hour to overnight. Of course, I have used other dressings such as Ranch, Blue cheese, Caesar, etc. And they all add their own flavor to the chicken. But I just love the Italian!

* These are the ingredients I used to season the flour. You can use as many or as little as you'd like.

*Put the flour in a bag. I used a Wegman's shopping bag. Add all the seasonings you want to this bag. Make sure the bag doesn't have holes in it!! I have dropped plenty-o-flour on the floor and hated cleaning it up.

* Add oil (about 1.5 cups) to a frying pan with at least a 1 inch lip around it.You will see bubbles come up from the bottom of the pan. Most people I have talked to, flick water in the pan and when it pops they put the chicken in there. I always hated this method because when it's popping, it's a bit too hot. You don't want to cook the chicken too fast. You want a steady even cook.

*Turn your stove on Med-High, and wait about 3-4 minutes.

*Your chicken should be ready to add to the flour now, and nicely marinated.

*Take your chicken and put it in the bag of flour

*Once you have added a few pieces of chicken to the bag, shake the bag until all the pieces are covered.

*Add the pieces to the oil. Although this seems like a pretty slow process through the pictures, it's actually pretty quick. You don't have much time because the oil is heating up and you don't want it to burn.

*As you can see, the chicken is beginning to cook. You can see blood around the edges of the bones, and you can see that there are bubbles forming in the grease. You don't want the grease too low or too high. Wait until it's done cooking...mine takes around 8-10 minutes to cook thoroughly. Sometimes longer.

*See that juicy, crispy goodness? Your chicken is done!! And I can tell you that it tasted so delicious.

It's funny how you sometimes have pictures on your camera that are meant to be posted and then they never become so. Well, This was back in the first week of august. I had bought some coconut water and a new perfume. Coconut water is wonderful. It's very hydrating and nonetheless more expensive than regular water but it delivers a smooth taste that I cannot describe. The coconut flakes inside the water are interesting too!

I also bought a new perfume. It was L.A.M.B by Gwen Stefani. And I love it dearly. It's very sweet and fruity. No muskiness to this perfume. And it stays on for a very long time! This is the 3.4 fl oz, and it was $105.

And last but not least, my Henri Bendel Black Fig candle. It is a WONDERFUL scent to fill the house. Kind of masculine, and sweet at the same time.

There is no better thing than going around the house and taking pictures of things that you have picked up along a journey somewhere, or gifts, etc. Happy Day!

Welcome Back

I sat in thought about "being lost" today. I pondered the idea of there being an epiphany that accompanies finding yourself. Do you just look in the mirror and say "Here I am!". Do you finally realize who or what you are and you suddenly have answers from there on? Well, regardless of the many outcomes and epiphanies I've had in the last few months, more than one truth stands firm...sometimes it's just therapeautic and helpful to take time to get to know YOU. Know what you want, what you need. I was blessed to have had the time to do that in the past year. And with new knowledge, outlooks and feelings; I look back with admiration because of what it took to get here. Hello to all of you. It feels great to be back "in the loop."

The site is new(er). Still the same address. Just a different name, that took me forever to decide on. And my focus is different. Richer, deeper and more meaningful that just fashion & beauty. Sure, they are wonderful topics, but I know so much more and have the ability to share so much more information with each and every one of you that I didnt want to focus in on one or two topics. I can promise the blog won't be spread all over the place like food on the table at Thanksgiving, but it will definitely have more quality.

I have found an amazing love and interest in cooking that, this time last year, I knew I had...I just didnt know exactly how much. As often as I can, I will be posting recipes on here, and doing videos and such that focus on cooking and baking. Not all of us can be Martha Stewarts or Rachel Rays in the kitchen but I will definitely show you everything I know!

30% Glycolic Acid Peel

A few weeks ago I was looking for a solution to my skin issue that I'm having now. The most unbelievable part of it all is that I have no idea where the breakouts are coming from! Stress isn't really a huge part of my life right now. I do drink coffee like crazy, but I have always done that. I drink water all the time. I wash my face daily, and exfoliate regularly. But wait, I have changed my face wash! I honestly didn't think that it would be a big deal if I bought some different face washes to try out and review. In the midst of trying out different face washes, I noticed my skin was getting substantially worse.

I found an idea with Makeup Artists Choice products. I researched, and finally chose the 30% Glycolic Acid Peel. I received it in the mail within a week, and was so nervous!! It came with a pamphlet that explains to you how to use your peel. It was very useful, because to neutralize the peel, you mix baking soda and water and apply it to your face.You use cotton balls to apply the solutions.

I want to show you all how this is going to work for me. Every Thursday is when I do the peels. I will be posting my progress frequently.

Now, I was definitely convinced that it was a great product. I saw pictures on the website of women who have used it and saw amazing results. Here is the message to "Acne Clients" (credit MUAC):

"You are beginning your treatments with pores that are congested/clogged with embedded dirt, dead skin cells and sebum. As you begin your treatments the sebum just under the surface will likely emerge as blemishes. This is normal. Breakouts may seem more pronounced since the acid is cleaning the pores more quickly than with regular cleansing products. Typically within the first 3 weeks, the skin begins to show improved clarity with very few breakouts. Please try to be patient during this time. Deep cleansing and exfoliation is a "process" which takes some time to work."

This seemed to speak to me. And it still does. I have been using the peel for 2 weeks now. Today was the first application.

Although I had some makeup on, my skin was decent. I didn't have a crazy breakout and my blemishes weren't nearly as visible as they are now.

And the left side of my face is just as bad. I have an issue with blackheads, and acne scarring, and pimples and redness. A combination I have never known much about. Maybe it's the foundation I am using (Mac Pro-longwear NW50--[mixed with]--Mac Pro-longwear NC45) that is breaking me out. But I will show you a picture of a time when my skin was luminous..and then I will tell you what facewash I was using...

Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser

And so I bought it last week, and I am so excited to get back to Biore. But I will say that in the last picture of my skin at one of it's best times, I was using Stila Oil Free Natural Finish Foundation...And I'm wondering if I shouldn't go back....

I have read so many posts about Android vs Iphone, and have learned so much when it comes to the difference in the apps between the two platforms. I know many of us Android users are kind of left behind the curtain right now when it comes to magazine apps, and other things.

I have read a post recently on another blog, and the blogger had some great apps....but they were pertaining to Apple only, and they didn't say what Android apps are similar. So I am going to be doing that today. I will name the apps that were in that post & put their comparable Android apps. And I'm including links too!! IS available on the Android Market. More often than not, there are songs that I hear while I am walking in the supermarket, and I find myself humming the tune through the checkout. This app is amazing. You can access the app from your home screen and you're able to use it to identify that song that you're loving!!

Epicurious (Free):

IS available on the Android Market. This app is great because there are thousands of recipes that you have access to!! You can search by ingredient, and it tells you how the dishes are rated! And even what cook book they were in or where they were submitted from! This app is published by Conde Nast Publishing, the same company that publishes magazines such as Vogue, Glamour, Allure and many more!

Parenting (Stages & Ages) -- (Free):

IS NOT available on the Android Market. But I have found a couple like "Android Parenting Tips" and "Parenting Today". The Apple parenting app is based on the magazine. Conforming To Thoughts..

I spent a good majority of my life conforming to what others thought of me. It was never sincerely what I really wanted to do. My mom always had a very innate ability to sing better than Prince on any day. But when it came to me humming along to the tune in the car while we were driving somewhere, it never conquered. And when she told me that I had a beautiful voice, it quickly slithered in one ear and out the other. But with the most apparent thoughts at hand, I was able to continue agreeing that there was a talent that I possessed. I just wasn’t sure if singing was it. When it came to art projects in school that were given as fun for others, I took them seriously. And I took them home. Although I understand that every parent wants to keep every picture that their kid draws, I felt good to give my mom the pictures that I spent 45 minutes drawing. And she tried to stick with the ownership of the pictures as long as she possibly could. But the reality of the situation is that it just wasn’t possible for her to keep each and every picture that I drew her. But I know she saw them, and to me that was enough. She began to understand just how talented I really was. And just how far this talent could take me. Should I accept the challenge to pursue this. I remember having conversations with my mom about what I wanted to do for college, and what I wanted to be. It was apparent to me that I had no truly clear idea. But I knew that art would somehow be included in my life. And even if we get separated, and we come back to each other; art and I had a real love. And it was a true, rockhard love. But as I sat in that chair and explained to my mother that art wasn’t really something that I wanted to pursue as a career at the moment because I felt like there wasn’t enough money in the profession. Which isn’t entirely true. But far be it from me to dig deeper into the solution at that point.

My mother nodded her head. She understood where I was coming from. Even as a senior in high school, I hadn’t figured out what I wanted to do. And as life continued unravel for me, I knew I would be closer to discovering that. Even after having my daughter I still wasn’t sure what was meant for me. Walking down that road we call uncertainty, I just wanted to know more and more about myself. I wanted to know what was out there for me to make my mark. What is it it that’s going to give me that wholesome fulfilling sensation that what I’m doing is a perfect fit for me and my life? And so I knocked on more than one door, with each one returning circumstances that were less than expected. I thought I had finally figured out what I wanted to do when I hit the blogging world. Even as I consumed myself in my website and the mainstream media frenzy over blogging; I knew there was more that I wanted to do. There was more that I wanted to conquer. And so I would often ask myself what can you possibly conquer out in the world if you can’t conquer yourself? And the thing is that I hadn’t even begun to figure out who I was. With more than one person allowing me to have their full support; I knew it wouldn’t be long before I figured out my life. But was that enough? Was it enough that even with a short army behind me, I would still have to find out about ME? I wouldn’t be able to only look at myself through their eyes. I would have to look at myself. I would have to look at every single part of me and discover the reasons for why I am the way that I am. A self discovery like this came at a hard time because of other things that I had going on in my life. But it only allowed me to sustain more discipline when it came to me needing myself to depend on. Many lessons were learned as a result of this journey. The main lesson that I learned is that it is very important for me to keep a belief in myself. A belief in myself that is stronger than any belief that someone else could have in me. But this has been the hardest thing for me to learn. All because of what I have been through. How can you love yourself completely if you blame yourself for some things that go wrong in your life? And where do you start?

I began to stop looking at myself in such a negative manner. It was disrespectful to myself to keep living a lie. I am not as out of shape as I think I am. The flaws that I don’t like are things that I need to be proud of. Things that I need to sit down and embrace. But I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to look at myself in the mirror and tell myself all those affirmations that would make me feel like I was important. I felt fine with insulting myself on the regular, and pointing out flaws about myself that were really nothing to be ashamed of in the first place. But I thought that because I was comparing myself to other people, that they were flaws that were real. And that they were flaws that I needed to correct to feel better about myself. But little did I know that I needed to solve the root of the problem. And the problem was that I was comparing myself to other people and allowing how they look/feel/act to dictate my life and what I think about me. Instead of building me up and giving me confidence, it was breaking my spirit. I am fine with who and what I am. And I am coming into that discovery now. But it’s something that I definitely wish I had taken the time to find out earlier in life. Whenever you think you aren’t worthy of something, or there are things you don’t like about yourself or doubt yourself or anything that you do, think about what this is doing to yourself. Think about it as a garden that you are constantly subjecting to harsh weather conditions. If it is constantly snowing and raining and hailing on this garden, whatever is being grown in the garden is going to be ruined. Thus is the same for us. If we’re constantly subject ourselves to “harsh conditions”, then we will not be able to blossom and grow into beautiful beings. We need water, nutrition, and light. Though I could sit here and name many different metaphors that you can use for this scenario; it’s better that you use what you have been through and what your situation is at this moment to create the meaning.

Away with smoke...

At times I stare at myself in the mirror and wonder what is wrong with me. Why have I allowed myself to get so out of shape? Why is it that when I want comfort, I think of food? I quit one of the nastiest habits you can have, and that was smoking. It was quite easy for me because it was time. It wasn't because of someone else, it was because I was finally ready to break free. Smoking cigarettes was "stress relief" to me. And I am beginning to believe that the comfort of it was something that I made in my mind. I wanted something that would comfort me regardless of the situation, and that's what cigarettes did. Instead of eating, I smoked. And when it was a habit that was affordable in New York State, it was easy for me to feed that habit endlessly. I never really sat back and looked at what I was doing. I just felt that the smoking relaxed me, and life was so stressful; or so I thought. But I truly had no idea what stress was. No idea what real responsibility was. All I knew was that the $40 a night I made waitressing at Pizza Hut was a lot of money, and I felt like I could handle the pressures of a job, school and home. I was in for a rude awakening.

At 145lbs, and 5ft 8in tall I felt amazing. I felt like I could accomplish anything. I felt energized. But I didn't realize that the cigarettes were tearing me apart from many things. Slowly, but surely; they were giving me the seclusion that I so desperately didn't need. At some point, I felt like I was cool. As if it was somehow glamorous to be seen at 3:15 walking to my car after school and sitting in the parking lot with a cigarette in my mouth. It wasn't cool. And looking back on it, I would have done so much more than participate in activities that were going to do nothing but ruin my body. Drinking. Drinking was never a huge habit for me. But it became more than recreation for me in a stage of my life. And I did it more than needed. In turn, I felt like garbage more and more. I soon realized that getting drunk and going out on Fridays and Saturdays isn't "The Life." It was a wish for a "Sad Life." Once I had my daughter, I knew that I had to take a handle on how much I was smoking and consider making the necessary efforts to quit completely. For myself and for my daughter. And I thought that I was was going to be making the right decision to include Neve in my reasoning behind quitting. But I wasn't. See, it was great that I wanted to include her in the motivation behind my efforts for quitting. But in all honesty, it needed to be something that I wanted to do for me, and not for anyone else.I needed to sit back and realize the control that smoking was taking over my life, my wallet, my time, my friends, my daughter and so on. And I wasn't ready to quit just yet. But I knew for Neve, I needed to make a conscious effort to cease the habit. During my whole pregnancy, I was able to not smoke, although sometimes the thought would grace my mind briefly. And up until she was almost 1 year old, I was able to leave the habit behind. Put it away in the closet for a while.

For a short while, yes I was able to quit. And it came back. Or rather I picked the habit up again. I made it so that I was able to control how much I smoked, and where I did it. I did it when I was at home, but only if my daughter was sleeping, and I wouldn't smoke in the house. I eventually met my ex, and he bluntly stated that he refused to be with a smoker. And so began the journey of quitting for someone else. It was not a happy journey. And I made it. But I knew that I would be healthier, I would feel better about my decision, my body, my lifestyle, and most of all; being a role model for my daughter. Something I could say that I was proud of, I was glad that I made that decision. Or was I? I succumbed to my worst fear towards the end of that relationship. Insecurity was a large part of it. And more so, my fear of not having the "relaxation" that cigarettes gave me. And so until almost 2 months ago, I was yet again another customer at the store paying hard earned money for cigarettes. Except it was now almost $10 I was paying for my habit. It was no longer $5 or $6 a pack. And every time I handed the clerk a 10 dollar bill, a part of me cried. And every time I lit that cigarette and inhaled, I felt horrible. I felt dizzy, and like I wanted to throw up. But it was at that point I was done. I was fed up. I wanted a change. And I realized that it was time, and I was finally ready. So one day, I had at least half of my pack of cigarettes left, and I ran them under the water in the kitchen sink. Then I took them over to the trash can and crushed them one by one. It felt amazing. I felt like like I could conquer anything, and I couldn't wait to get back to being me. And although I know it's not going to come overnight, I know that I will be able to enjoy learning how to love and take care of my body to the fullest.

This exhilarating journey is something that I can't wait to include each and every one of you in. I am so excited to finally say I am done!! I no longer smoke cigarettes!! If you smoke cigarettes, and have ever considered quitting but don't have the strength, or motivation to do so...do it when you are ready. And to prepare for that you should sit down and think of all the things you might be missing out on by continuing to smoke. I know for me, I was missing out on the true taste of food, the energy that was lost, and the feeling of true health. And so I will continue to learn more and more about what this success means for my self esteem and my life in general. I hope all of you are doing wonderful. Until next time....

Sometimes, I find myself trying to focus to “do homework”, when I am actually distracted by Facebook, emails, or other things.
What makes you focus on your studies? Getting closer to the deadline haha!
You recently saw Paranormal Activity. Did you see the first one? What were your thoughts on both movies? I’ve only seen the first one. I was really looking forward to it because it’s supposed to be terrifying, but it genuinely bored the life out of me. I’ve heard that the second one is a lot better though so hopefully I’ll manage to see it in the near future!
How was your New Year’s? What resolutions did you make? My New Year’s was quite good; I rang in 2011 in one of my friend’s houses. I haven’t made any resolutions this year because I never keep them……actually; I guess my resolution was to not make resolutions!
It is a wonderful thing to learn to drive, as you agree. And amazingly enough, it allows many of us to have a grand amount of independence. How has your life changed since you have started driving? My life really hasn’t changed that much, I just feel a lot more grown up!
What drew your interest into blogging? Well I guess it stems from watching videos on YouTube. I am a huge fan of many Vloggers and Gurus, and for a while I was thinking of starting a channel like that but I never really worked up the nerve. However, a lot of Vloggers also have websites/blogs, which I really enjoy reading so I decided to start my own!
What are some topics that readers can look forward to being covered on your blog? In a nutshell, reviews, maybe some “hauls” and of course, my own random thoughts!
What is your blog’s name? How did you come up with that name for your blog? I have two blogs. One is called “Ramblings of a Daydreamer” (http://louisecreedon.blogspot.com/), because I am a daydreamer and I tend to ramble while I speak. The other one is called “A Little Bit of Everything”( http://louisealittlebitofeverything.blogspot.com/), because as I was creating that blog the phrase just popped into my head. I couldn’t think of anything better so I went with it!
I love the realm of topics you cover in your blog. What inspires you to write? Everything inspires me! Sometimes an idea will just float into my head; sometimes they come from the world around me.
As many of us in the blogging world, talk about different topics; what are some of your goals for your blog in the upcoming future? I hope to post a lot more regularly, like maybe Monday, Wednesday and Friday, just to give my blogs a bit more structure. In the same way, I hope to maybe write about certain things on certain days, like maybe a review of a product on a Monday, a post about a favourite product on a Tuesday, etc. In this way I hope to keep readers interested and entertained.
Do you have any Social Networking sites that you’d like to share with others? None that are related to my blogs, so it would be a bit pointless to share them.

Moving Tips

Moving can be stressful but it definitely doesn't have to be. I have decided to share some of my best tips on moving...

8 weeks: If you plan on using movers, get written estimates from 3-5 movers. Use caution and beware of bids that seem "to good to be true"
6 weeks: Request a floor plan of your new apartment. If you are unable to get a floor plan, there are sites that are excellent for making your own. Be sure to have tape measure & pencil ready!! Sites such as Small Blue Printer, and Floor Planner are great for this! Also, at this point you should make sure that your magazines are going to be forwarded! It takes a while sometimes, and this is enough time for the companies to process your request.
4 weeks: Stock up on supplies and begin packing. Number each box and log the contents, in case one gets lost in the move. Label each one with the room that it should go in. Definitely ask a friend to help you on moving day.
2 weeks: Arrange to have your utilities disconnected at your current home and hooked up at your new residence. If you are going far, get your car serviced. Also, arrange to have your mail forwarded. This can sometimes take longer than a week. So you want to be safe just in case.
1 week: Cancel your newspaper delivery.
2 days: Pack the valuables like jewelry separately. Just as well, this is when you want to start packing the more important items too. Set aside clothes for the next 2 days, and pack the rest up!
THE BIG DAY!: When the movers present you with a bill, please read it very carefully before signing it. Always keep a copy! Do a definite walk-through to ensure your house is truly empty and hit the road...

Red lipstick can be very tricky to master. From shade, to formula; it's best to try it all. Here are my tips for success in RED

Find the best: There is no real trick to picking out a red shade of lipstick.Your best solution would be to try blue-based and orange-based reds. The trick is if the shade is right for you, your whole face will gleam!! If the shade is wrong, it will look as if your face is being drained of color!

Rich is it: The best reds are opaque, matte, and with a nice shine to them. Long-wearing formulas are sticky, heavy and most often flake. Look for one that goes on dark, not sheer. The more pigment, the less re-application!!

Prep: Before applying, I always use a toothbrush to exfoliate my lips. I use a little bit of Carmex lip balm after I've exfoliated. Always make sure to have a lip liner that is the same shade as the lipstick you are wearing. You want to lightly trace the shape of your lips. If you cannot find a match; always go lighter. NEVER darker.

Put it on: Apply the lipstick straight from the tube. Don't use a brush because it will be entirely too sheer. Start at the center of your mouth and go outward. Blot ONCE with tissue before letting the lipstick settle and applying another coat.

Up to date: Red lipstick should be effortless. I feel that I look best with red lipstick when my skin is dewy, I am wearing only mascara, a hint of eyeliner and blush on my cheeks.

Simplicity: Sometimes, it is good to go all out with red lipstick and have your outfit be just as bold as your lips. And other times, it is good to wear red lipstick with less formal clothes. Like a white tank and jeans...

Sometimes in life we need a breather...A chance to regroup and a chance to figure out what we want. Have you ever lost focus of the things that you want in life? Ever sat around wondering where your life is going, or why it's going in the direction it's headed? Sometimes it's important to take a step back and look at ourselves. And to understand that the things we love and we have a passion for are only a hand's reach away. We just have to have the willpower to get them and the understanding that it doesn't take overnight to obtain them. This is what I've been doing. Both in personal and business life, and being a parent. And my blog, my passion, and my dreams & goals have taken the back burner to my emotional burdens. I have gone through more in the last 24 months than I have in my life. And I am trying to allow my brain to receive these experiences as learning lessons and warnings to abstain from anything that can ruin that. No, I am not leaving my blog...it's still here. And I sincerely appreciate each and every one of you that hasn't pressed the "unfollow" button. I really do. In January, I will begin doing giveaways. I want to put a better focus on what this blog is really here for. Gravy Smothered Cube Steak w/ Sauteed Onions and Green Peppers

Hello everyone!!! I'm back. And I have a great recipe for you dolls!

♥Cube Steak w/ Sauteed Onions & Gr. Peppers
♥Chicken Flavored Brown Rice
♥Green Beans

...this is what's on the menu. Sounds delish right? Can't wait to show you how I make this amazing meal. Stay tuned....

Ingredients:

Cube Steak
(1) Green Pepper
(1) Onion (I used Vidalia)
Salt
Black Pepper
Adobo Seasoning
Basil
Oregano
Lemon Pepper Seasoning
Garlic Powder
Minced Garlic
Shredded Mozarella Cheese
1 packet Gravy Mix
1 Jar Gravy

> Sometimes I measure things exactly by the tsp or cup, but most of the time, I eyeball it. I have taken pictures of each seasoning & how much I used in this recipe. Approximates? I would say that each seasoning is 1-1½ tsp. You can always add whatever seasonings you'd like.

Start by cutting the green pepper like shown above.

Then, cut them in half as shown above.

Today, I used a Cast Iron Skillet to sautee the Peppers & Onions. I love the outcome! A little crunch, but very flavorful. To sautee them, you will need 2tbsp of any oil you choose. I chose Vegetable Oil. And you will need 1/4 cup of water. Put the water in with the oil so that they heat together & you don't have oil spitting everywhere.

You want to julienne cut the onion.

Put the peppers & onions in the skillet with the water & oil. Have them simmer on Low-Medium.

Add salt to your peppers & onions

Add pepper...

And Adobo Seasoning....

And basil...

And Oregano...

And Lemon Pepper...

And Garlic Powder...

And Minced Garlic....

So you have finished with the seasonings. And all of them have been added to the peppers & onions. Allow the mixture to cook to your liking. I like mine to be sauteed hard with a little bit of crunch. Stirring occasionally of course. Once that is finished, set it to the side.

**HEAT OVEN TO 350º**

Now for the steak...

This is the steak. I have put it in a gravy. What you will need is water and a 1 pack of gravy mix. You will need to follow the directions on the packet to make the gravy. Whisk the mixture together so that there are no clumps and pour it over the meet. I seared the steak in butter for 30 seconds on each side in a skillet before I added it to this pan. Cover the meat with foil and bake for about 45 minutes-1 hour. Take the meat out & make sure it's done.

The meat is done now. You will need to drain 1/2 of the juice.

Add your peppers & onions to the meat. Spread them evenly over the steak.

Add the jar gravy to the steak. Add as much or as little as you want. After that, sprinkle about a 1/2c. of mozarella cheese to the top of the meat. Put the steak back in the oven for another 15 minutes.

Now for the rice...

You can use white or brown rice. I used white long grain rice.

Now, while the rice is boiling; you will need to add 2 bouillon cubes. Chicken flavor. I added Salt, Pepper, Adobo Seasoning and 2tbsp Butter to taste. If you don't want to make this rice from scratch, you can use Rice-A-Roni or whatever you choose.

Green beans...

I used canned green beans, but you are more than welcome to use frozen or fresh.

You're done!!!

I am infatuated with the new show, What's Eating You. And it's amazing how other people deal with food. And how food can become an addiction. With so many fad diets, and so many people overweight and trying to overcome it; do we stop to ask ourselves the most important questions?

What's my relationship with food? Do you eat even though you aren't hungry? Do you binge eat? Do you sometimes go without eating?

I've have been referred to as inspirational in more than one conversation. Inspirational? Me? Yes, some think so. And in a recent affiliation with inspiration has helped me to continue to try and be positive about things. ♥ I don't know about you, but it's a wonderful thing to be considered inspirational. I have put so much energy and confidence in this blog and my life as well. Have you ever worked really hard at something, only to have someone tell you that you aren't doing good enough? But you think you are! And it gets frustrating, it gets tough, and you just want to give up. But when you have people who know you supporting you, it means a lot. And it means even more when you have people who don't even know you supporting you. Or friends that you make that find you such an inspiration to them. I have never met any of my followers. But I would definitely love to meet you all! I am just so inspired myself by all of the lovely emails and comments I get on a daily basis telling me how much you love my blog and you love reading it!! So...thank you! But back to the main point of this post..

For every person that thinks you can't do something, there are 2 people who think that you can. Underestimating yourself is not going to ever help you, trust me I have done it one too many times. And the only thing that does is give others the impression that they can underestimate you as well. Which is going to do nothing but bring you down. If you ever consider loving someone else, you must love yourself. And much of my learning has been about that. You must understand that we can do anything. Wait....but we can add more to that statement. You can also do anything with the right support around you. I can never reiterate enough that it is such a relief to know that for every shred of confidence you don't have, there is someone willing to give you that confidence back. So, for every person that thinks I'm inspirational...thank you. Thank you for allowing me to be an inspiration to you.

 Beauty can be achieved a number of ways. One of them is to eat  healthier. Here are some foods that help certain aspects of beauty.

Lemon H2O: Lemon peels  contain pectin- a soluble fiber proven to help immensely with weight  loss. Lemon water helps you feel fuller. Just add lemon juice to your  water!!

Red Grapefruit: I  read about a study where a woman ate half a grapefruit with each meal  and lost 3.6 pounds over 12 weeks. While those who drank it 3 times a  day lost 3.3 pounds. The red kind has more of the cancer protecting  antioxidant lycopene.

Figs:  They have  been shown to perk up your looks and slow the aging process. Eating a  handful of dried figs increases the amount of antioxidants in your blood  for four hours. Which is much longer than many other foods. 

Red Bell Peppers: These have  large amounts of Vitamins A, C & E. Which makes it a superfood. 

Watermelon: This  also has the cancer fighting antioxidant lycopene. And it provides 33%  more protection against sunburn than other fruits.

Beans: These are  one of those antioxidants that have been shown to fight cancer, boost  immunity, and keep bones strong.  Beans are loaded with phytochemicals  (including saponins, protease inhibitors and phytic acid), which may  protect cells from damage that potentially causes cancer.

Dark Chocolate: Dark chocolate  is rich in flavinoids, and believed to promote heart health by reducing  platelet activation, affecting the relaxation capabilities of blood  vessels. In other words...eat up!!!

Cinnamon:  Researchers  believe that cinnamon may inhibit certain Alzheimer's disease cells.

I think Chrisette Michele is gorgeous. Even more so, I think she has an amazing voice. There is a quick interview that she did with Necole Bitchie.

You revealed your new hairstyle at a show at Albany State University, right?
I didn’t really plan to reveal it. I was at a show and I had a hat on so when I went backstage there was a bunch of kids with cameras. They saw the front of my head and since it was so light blond and close to my skin complexion they made headlines that I had shaved my head bald. I was a bit disappointed. I did cut my hair off. It’s a quarter inch. It’s not shaven but I was so over the hair damage and everything I was dealing with having the other hair style so I said that I was going to go back natural.

When I posted your photos, one comment in particular said that “Women who have natural hair look down on women who prefer to relax their hair because they secretly hate their own hair.” It was like a battle between those who prefer natural hair and those who prefer relaxed hair.
It’s so interesting to me because my thing is I always want to bring unity. For me it’ll never be a battle between a natural sister and a relaxed sister. It’ll always be what’s best for you and what’s best for me is having the healthiest hair possible. I’m a girl who has always had healthy hair and getting into the music industry has ruined my hair care regimen because you have to be on 10 all the time. So the easiest way for me to be on 10 is to be on 10 naturally.

Someone made the comment that shaving her hair off was the most liberating experience she has had as a woman. Do you feel the same way?
It definitely was liberating because people told me that my style; who I am as a musician, who I am as a person, and who I am as a body type would never fly in this industry. 1) because I’m too thick 2) because my hair was nappy 3) because I wasn’t singing about what everyone else was singing about. I am not interested in really selling sex, that’s not really my brand so I’ve faced a lot of challenges so far and wanting to go natural for 6-7 months now was a challenge. People that I asked (not from my label) was like “You can’t do that. That doesn’t match fashion. You can’t be high-fashion with nappy hair.”

I feel at times we use our hair as a security blanket. The longer my hair is or the “bigger” I wear it, the more I hide my insecurities. And then sometimes I just feel like India Arie’s “I Am Not My Hair.”
But the truth of the matter is, everyone keeps saying to me “I am not my hair.” I AM my hair. Whether I wear long tresses on my head or short naps, that’s me. And when you say something crazy about it or disrespect it, you hurt my feelings. Artists like to make believe that nothing effects them and that they love haters and haters make them stronger. That’s a load of bullcrap. I think that haters are mean and that’s all that’s to it. So…I am my hair.

I was told you have photos of your new hairstyle. When do you plan to reveal them?
Me and Derek Blanks did a photo shoot titled “For Freedom, Not For Beauty” because the main reason for this is not about being beautiful. It’s about being free from the status quo and from being in the box and from being what everybody thinks one person should be. And really just liberating oneself and becoming what that person wants to be. I also wrote a poem that goes with it.

Rihanna Reb'l Fleur Perfume Revealed!!

If you're as big a Rihanna fan as I am, you have been wishing for this moment. And you know in your heart that it's gonna be big. When Beyonce's perfume came out, I thought it was ok; but it doesn't smell that good for that long. And when Kim Kardashian's perfume came out, I knew I had smelled it before but I just didn't know what. And with Rihanna's notes being a fruity chypre, with these floral notes: tuberose, violet and hibiscus – with a splash of coconut water; I just know this is going to be amazing. Tuberose is such and amazing scent!

The scent was just introduced at the TWFA World Exhibition in Cannes, France. Next year is when it comes out in the US and Internationally. I love the idea that she had for the bottle. I love that you wouldn't necessarily think that it's representative of a heel. The bottle glows from within. It is decorated with a gold ring, and silk ribbons. The box is quite nice. But if I was Rihanna, I would have done a black box with that gold decoration on it and white writing. Can't wait until it comes out. Are there any perfumes that you just can't live without or are awaiting their release? One of my all-time favorites is Shi by Alfred Sung...it's amazing.

I have a unique name. And I was blessed with the opportunity to carry that name stemming from my grandmother's first & middle name. It was so very difficult for me to write my name in kindergarten. And it was even more difficult for the teachers to attempt to pronounce it correctly. Once middle school came around, I was pretty used to the...

"El'Aundra" I'd interrupt, "And yes I am here"

How annoying it became. But patience came in the form of me realizing that they were new to my name, and I was lucky to not have a name like everyone else. Or was I? Once high school came around, I was pretty much wishing I was Marie on Wednesdays, Cynthia on Thursdays, and Brooke on Sundays. Why, I don't know. But I wanted something easier. Something much simpler. Something that could not be manipulated. As much as my name was ripped to shreds by the time it came out of most people's mouths, I was still quite thankful for such a clever name. But what was it that made me want another name? Why wasn't I satisfied with my own? Who was to say that if my name was something else that I would have been satisfied with it? The guarantee came when I got away from those who saw me everyday and met new people. And they liked my name. They thought that it was beautiful, unique, pretty, interesting, different and one of a kind. Unbeknown to me, it was becoming something that I was proud of. And understanding that even though my name was hard to pronounce, it was beautiful in it's own special way. Growing and maturing has allowed me to become interested in making my name a [dot com]. When I had first started blogging, the idea had crossed my mind; but I wasn't too serious about it at the time. And now that I see a great amount of potential in my blog, I am pleased to announce that my blog is no longer titled "EDK.DOLCE", and the blog is no longer at "www.edkdolce.blogspot.com" The blog is not titled "El'Aundra" and located at "www.elaundra.com"

How amazing is that? Pretty darn amazing. EDK.DOLCE is still a part of my website and my MUA work. It's on my business cards because it's a great business title. And it's still professional.

Hello everyone!! Well, where have I been right? I don't think I have EVER gone this long without posting for as long as I have had the blog!! But, unfortunately; LIFE HAPPENS. And I'm sure we can all agree to that. But I will be touching on that in another post. And how have YOU all been? As you can see, edk.dolce DID get a facelift... new banner, new colors & new signature. There is also a new toolbar up under the banner, so DEFINATELY check that out if you haven't already!!

So I wanted to touch on a topic. Many people are into fake designer handbags, and some of those people wind up looking so stupid wearing a fake handbag. But beyond that, where does it come from? A street corner? A website? A friend that is selling them? These are all outlets for getting these handbags. And the crazy thing is that it's a growing fad!! People are making money off of this! There are so many things that are a hustle in this world, but this is one of the biggest. I saw this woman the other day that was so comfortable with wearing a fake Chanel. You could see that it was fake. The straps were all worn down and it was made out of that horrible vinyl "fake leather" material. But she looked so proud to be carrying it. When it comes to a status, or making us feel better about who we are as a person, why does the simulated make us feel better if we can't quite achieve the genuine yet? Why can we walk around with a fake bag & be happy with that? Why can we allow ourselves to have fake friends, and think that we are going to be ok? Why even wake up in the morning with a fake agenda? Just like when it comes to your body, treating it well is the best policy; when it comes to many other subjects such as love, life, fashion and more....consider the genuine. That's worth the thought...

And what's more, have you ever seen someone with a fake handbag and did everything you could to not burst out laughing? Or have you bought a fake handbag & later regretted it? Or even bought one & was cheated by the person or website you bought it from? Share!! Knowledge is key! And I am sure that other readers would love to hear it!!

I started blogging mainly to vent. But it turned into a public source for information on beauty, health and other topics. And now it has grown into edk.dolce. At first, I didn't even know what to call it! But eventually names started coming to me. And then ideas for how I wanted this blog to look started coming to me. And shortly after that, I decided that I was soooo sick of seeing bloggers with like 12,000 followers and they never had a giveaway for their followers, or simply weren't recognizing them on their blogs!! 12,000 followers!! You can imagine how awesome edk.dolce would be with 12,000 followers considering how completely amazing it is now! And oddly enough the number is only growing. Whenever something is going horribly wrong, whether it be in your personal or professional life, it is in our nature to want to improve our situation. Have you ever asked the question: What if I just accepted my situation? By immediately trying to help our situation, we are not helping. We are merely looking for a quick fix. There is a lesson in everything and how do we know that there isn't a powerful lesson in the reason we argue with our spouses or we don't get along with colleagues? Whatever it may be, there is sure to be a lesson in it.

Where does the roller coaster begin? And why is it that I don't remember purchasing tickets? Sometimes we are just thrown into an obstacle, and we have to overcome it. But the first thing we do is believe in bad luck. We believe that a series if mishaps is because of bad luck. Bad luck is something that, if you believe in, it is the reason why bad things keep happening. In other words, if you have a genuine positive outlook, your situation will improve. Not immediately. But pretty soon. Just have patience.

"Let's watch a move" I said to my boyfriend, and he probably sensed that I needed some intense QT (quality time) with someone other than myself. So we tried to figure out what movie to watch. He was not so concerned about watching a movie. He was more impressed with the idea of us laying in the bed and relaxing...which usually leads to the question of "Baby, can I get a foot rub?" And I say of course. I know he loves them & sometimes I don't feel like doing them but I really try to fulfill that need for him. THIS is one of the things that makes my day. I don't worry about a job, or money, or bills. My daughter makes me forget so many things too. She doesn't even know the stress that comes with age, and it's so refreshing to have such innocence asking questions repetitively. What is it that makes you forget about all your troubles? Is it spending time with your spouse? Or your children? Either way, accepting that you are just going through something can often be the best remedy for comfort. Dwelling on your situation and having a negative outlook is not going to help at all.

Hello everyone! Many of you know....I love to cook. I love to cook beyond the norm. I get tired of eating basic foods really easy. I love trying new foods. So I am going to share a recipe for a wonderful pastry dessert with you. Baklava is soooo good. It's sweet but not crazy sweet and it is definitely a positively guilty pleasure. I like to use Pecans, but you can use any chopped nuts of your preference. Love, love, love it!! Enjoy!!

Ingredients:
1 (16oz) package of Phyllo dough
1 LB chopped nuts
1c. butter
1tsp. ground cinnamon
1c. water
1c. white sugar
1tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 c. honey

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F(175 degrees C). Butter the bottoms and sides of a 9x13 inch pan.
Chop nuts and toss with cinnamon. Set aside. Unroll phyllo dough. Cut whole stack in half to fit pan. Cover phyllo with a dampened cloth to keep from drying out as you work. Place two sheets of dough in pan, butter thoroughly. Repeat until you have 8 sheets layered. Sprinkle 2 - 3 tablespoons of nut mixture on top. Top with two sheets of dough, butter, nuts, layering as you go. The top layer should be about 6 - 8 sheets deep.
Using a sharp knife cut into diamond or square shapes all the way to the bottom of the pan. You may cut into 4 long rows the make diagonal cuts. Bake for about 50 minutes until baklava is golden and crisp.
Make sauce while baklava is baking. Boil sugar and water until sugar is melted. Add vanilla and honey. Simmer for about 20 minutes.
Remove baklava from oven and immediately spoon sauce over it. Let cool. Serve in cupcake papers. This freezes well. Leave it uncovered as it gets soggy if it is wrapped up.

Fall things to love...(or lust)

How to get really shiny hair...

Start in the shower. Look for shine-enhancing shampoo and conditioner with ingredients like OLIVE OIL, JOJOBA AND RICE PROTEINS. Alternate these with your regular formulas to prevent buildup. Be wary of clarifying shampoos; they can deprive the hair of much-needed moisture and even strip the dye off color-treated hair. After you shampoo, apply conditioner evenly through the ends and rinse thoroughly. If your hair is color-treated, use a hair mask weekly to replenish moisture.
Prep. After towel-drying, apply either a glossing cream or a shine serum with high levels of panthenol (provitamin B5). To learn more about Vitamin B5, click here. Glossing creams are lighter and have less silicone, so they're more appropriate for women with fine to medium hair. Use a shine serum if you have frizzy or coarse hair or unruly curls. Avoid saltwater sprays though. They tend to leave a matte finish on your hair. Massage a quarter-size dollop of the product evenly through your hair.
Dry the right way. Place a round, natural bristle brush under a three-inch section of hair. Start at the roots, and hold the dryer so the nozzle aims downward-never up against the shaft. Slide the brush down without twisting it, to seal the cuticle.
Add a spritz. While your hair is still warm from the dryer, flip it upside down and mist the ends with a shine spray. This ensures you won't get too much product near the roots. If you need a touch-up during the day, spritz some shine spray on your hands and run them lightly through your hair. Again, you don't want to overdo it.

Hey everyone!! So, as posted in the previous post, I did not get the job at Body Central. But where one door closes, another one opens. So I am keeping my spirits high. But on other notes, I was going to bring up a topic....

Are any of you mothers? If you are, you obviously know how truly hard it is sometimes to work out, do laundry, bathe the child(ren), clean the house, and so much more!!! But how do you find time to work out? When do you work out? I have tried numerous things. Most of all, it's easiest for me to work out when nobody is around. And I feel better that way too. So, tell me how you juggle all of that. And any other creative ideas you have! Guaranteed I want to hear it and I'm sure that there are SO many other mothers on here with the same question!!

As life gets hectic, sometimes we find ourselves trying to catch up. Most times, the idea is not to run; but to work at a steady pace. But when we finally get a moment to breathe, we are so thankful right? Life is going to throw you through all kinds of obstacle courses. But the idea is not to rush at or into anything. The idea is to work at your own pace; a pace that makes you comfortable and not worry about what pace suits other people. After all, you can't live for everyone else. It is impossible to please everyone and please yourself all of the time. Today I finally have a moment to breathe, and sit still and I am going to do some much needed work on here.

So how have you all been? Did you see all the crazy outfits some of the celebs have been wearing to Fashion Week? Ugh, some of those get-ups make me cringe. I had an interview yesterday @ Body Central! If you don't know what Body Central is, click here. It truly is an amazing store. They have the BEST collection of accessories. I can't get enough of their selection. But, nevertheless, the interview went great. It was for an Assistant Manager position. I am really hoping I get it. lol I would start out as a Sales Associate, and contingent upon the Assistant Manager position still being open; if I proved myself in 5 weeks I would be promoted. What are some of your favorite clothing stores that you could see yourself working at??

Aveeno Nourish and Moisturize Review

So, my boyfriend's sister gave me a sample of Aveeno Nourish & Moisturize Conditioner and Shampoo. It is supposed to be a good product. First off, I like my conditioners to make my hair feel SOFT & SMOOTH. I have in between a 3b-3a curl pattern. This didn't necessarily do that. I used to use Dove Shampoo & Conditioner about a year ago, and it was amazing on my hair. My hair was so soft and manageable afterward. I can say that the Aveeno didn't make my hair feel as soft as Dove, but it was not completely stripped of it's moisture, so it was still somewhat soft. The shampoo was not harsh at all. And it had a pretty soft smell to it. Nothing too over-powering. The conditioner did it's job. It wasn't tangled or anything. When I got out of the shower, I moisturized my hair with some evoo (extra-virgin-olive-oil). And it feels great. I would consider buying it. I would give it (drum roll please)

The reason why I gave it this score is because of the softness of my hair afterward; or lack there of. But it really was decent. I hope this helps.
